Nerd Fitness Review

I know what you are probably thinking –

‘MIKE! WHY THE F*** ARE YOU RECOMMENDING YOUR COMPETITORS?’

It is a bit unusual, especially since I am not even hating on it but recommending it. However, I do not know everything, and would be damn right deceitful if I tried to say I did. My ambition is to help you guys out to transform your body and mind, and if it means referring you to someone else for some guidance, then so be it.

What is NerdFitness?

Nerd Fitness is a fitness website aimed at, yeah you guessed it, nerds… well not entirely.

The website is aimed at your typical person who would not expect to see in the gym. Basically, the girls and guys who have no interest in a bodybuilding or fitness model lifestyle, but just want to be a little leaner, fitter, and healthier.

The creator, Steve Kamb, goes about this is a very relatable and fun way; he uses video games such as Zelda and references to Star Wars to make it relatable:

nerd fitenss

His approach is simply refreshing; it is not full of the typical fitness jargon which most fitness blogs try and fool you to buy their supplements or workout programs. Steve keeps it simple, and that is what I preach; simple and straightforward.

I am such a big fan of Steve and Nerd Fitness as he really helped me get my fitness journey on the right track, both physically and mentally. Similar to UNIGAINS, Steve does not focus on the complexities to fitness, but more so on how to get up off your ass and do at least something to become a little bit fitter or leaner or stronger than you were yesterday.

Another great thing about Steve and Nerd Fitness is that he does not make you feel shit about your body. Unlike a lot of fitness websites, you do not feel that if you do not have a ripped six-pack then you are a failure. Of course, it is perfectly fine for it to be an ambition, however with Nerd Fitness there is no false hope when  it comes to how long it takes to results. Steve is all about becoming a better version of yourself, and that is all that matters.

The transformations at nerdfitness.com show normal people achieving realistic results, and it is really motivating to see how your typically Joe go about making extraordinary transformations. They do not promote some supplement or some ‘magic formula’, but simply detail how they went about making their transformation. An amazing transformation was from Joe, who lost 58kg (128lbs) over 10 months, and tells Steve exactly how he did it.

So yeah, I like Nerd Fitness. They keep it real and realistic, and it has been one of my go-to sites for general fitness and lifestyle for years. Steve is a cool and down-to-earth guy and simply wants to help you guys out.

If you are near the start of your fitness journey and are looking for some guidance to help you off, then I strongly suggest you add Nerd Fitness to your list of go-to websites, as they are just normal people helping other normal people to improve themselves physically and mentally.

The Flappy Bird Weight Loss Method

14073389239_b78386930c_b

Look. You want to get in shape. You have wanted to for years. If you are anything like the rest of us, I can only assume that you have tried to lose weight before by cutting out every bad thing out of your diet and just  trying to grit your teeth and stick with it. Unfortunately, for most of us…

Cold turkey does not work

I know you have that one friend who just decided to quit smoking one day and just did it – that is incredibly impressive and admirable. However, a lot of us simply cannot hack it.

Think about it this way: remember Flappy Bird? When I first played that game I could not get more than 3 points… 3 measly points. 10 points seemed like miles away. But, with time I slowly started to get better and better, and was able to stay focused and more concentrated, and was able to get a better score. Within a few days 10 point was a standard score for me, and after about 2 weeks I got up to 70 or so.

The same principle applies to losing weight: eating healthily and exercising right is the equivalent of scoring 70 points. If you try and do that straight away you will fail, as you have not trained yourself to be able to stay focused and consistent to achieve it. Sure, there may be the odd few you are able to get that score consistently straight away, however, it is rare.

What You Need To Do

Reduce the amount you eat by so little that it is literally a joke for you to not do it.

This is a method which works wonders; just pick one tiny bit of your diet which you can reduce/substitute. I wanted to drink coffee without sugar, and I used to put 3 spoons of sugar in. When I decided that this was too much I reduced it to 2.5 spoons; at first, the coffee tasted a tiny bit bitter, but within a few days it was completely normal. This is the equivalent of getting that 1 point on Flappy bird consistently.

Every few days I would decrease the amount of sugar I drank ever slowly and was comfortable with only 1 sugar in my coffee after about 2 weeks; this is me getting 10 points on Flappy Bird without a sweat. After about 3 weeks I was drinking black coffee – and loved the taste.

I know you are thinking that this took ages, but it is 6 months later and I feel no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. In fact, I prefer the taste of black coffee now.

The gradual approach allows you to not get that craving to the food/drink, as you are not eliminating it out of your life, but simply controlling how much you have. The fact that it is such a small amount makes things so much easier; it would be shameful if I could not reduce the amount of sugar I have in my coffee by half a teaspoon…

I honestly urge you to take Flappy Bird as inspiration and focus on increasing your score by 1 point at a time, and not try and leap for 70 straight away; losing weight, and keeping it off, are long-term goals and requires you to be consistent – I have found no better way to effortlessly lose weight than to make it so subtle and slow that it is not even a challenge.

Why am I not building more muscle?

MyProtein Deals My Business Opportunity

Many of us get so infused into the complexities of fitness; weight to use, reps, tempo, drop sets, and a whole load of other things which we think we have to execute perfectly in order to build muscle.

But, we are forgetting one thing…

WE ARE ANIMALS.

Let me explain…

Do you think lions, bears, monkeys and apes think about how much time they need to rest between exercise bouts? NO.

Now I know we are not monkeys, lions, or bears, but the point is that if we put stress on our muscles we will adapt.

The kind of stress does affect the kind of adaptation, however, we are still overthinking it.

Basically, if you are doing a set of exercise which lasts no longer than a minute, you are working towards getting stronger.

This will lead to you putting more stress on your muscles, which will result in you building muscle if you are in a caloric surplus (eating more than you are burning).

If you are doing anything more than this then you are working more towards increasing your endurance.

This will lead to less stress on your muscles and more on your aerobic system, meaning that you will not be building as much muscle if you were to be in a caloric surplus.

That is all you really need to know if you want to know where to start.

A lot of builders have a fairly substantial amount of muscle. Now compared to what fitness experts say, they do not do a 30-60 minute workout of 4 sets of 8-12 reps… they lift heavy all day every day.

This just shows how our bodies will genuinely adapt to the amount of stress we are putting on it; as builders are generally putting a high amount of stress on their muscles they are stimulating them to grow.

This combined with the fact that they are probably eating when they are hungry will lead to them eating enough to generally be in a surplus to build muscle, and therefore they get bigger – simple.

If you noticed I have used the word generally a lot.

As I have mentioned before, this is because CONSISTENCY IS KEY.

If you are in a calorie surplus 80% of the time, and putting a decent amount of stress on your muscles more times than not, then you will build muscle over time.

If you keep at this consistently, then you will soon build a sizeable amount of muscle.

So when you do not have access to the gym or are too lazy to go, just remember that any stress placed on your muscles is better than none.

It does not have to be exactly 3 sets of 8 followed by a 30-second rest; it could simply be doing one set of pushups to failure, or sprinting on the spot.

ANY EXERCISE IS GOOD EXERCISE!

Never think that just because you do not have a time for a full workout means that you should not do anything.

EVERY LITTLE HELPS.

Tesco is right (UK fans will know).

Please, do not focus on overcomplicating things, overthinking was what led to me building no muscle whatsoever.

If you are trying to build muscle, just eat enough and put some relatively intense stress on your muscles consistently.

Why you are not successful

8226451812_e197931e26_o

From a young age, I always seemed to be good at things.

Why?

Because I had the discipline and motivation to practice.

It has always baffled me why others could not get as good grades as mine at school – was it because I was just smarter? No – all I did was study more.

When I did speak to friends or family as to why, they would just go ‘Mike, you’re just smart!’

I almost started to believe that… until a month ago.

What did I find out?

As you know UNIGAINS is still pretty young, only a few months old.

To start things off I figured I would start it with a bang and offer free complete personal training to anyone.

Not just a consultation or weekly review, but 24/7 help.

I scoured the fitness section in Reddit and contacted over 100 people who asked questions to the community; these were people that clearly needed help.

I offered these people to personally train them and over 15 of them said yes!

I was so excited; finally, I would be able to help people, get some experience and build up my reputation! But…

Within 5 days 95% stopped replying.

I was shocked.

Free personal training was being offered. I even told them what my lifts were and showed my willingness to help them – there was no financial incentive on my part… yet people left before I could even put them on my program.

Admittedly, offering help on Reddit may not be the most credible source, however, I told them exactly what my lifts were and what I specialized in – would you turn down free training?

I never thought that people would… I guess I was wrong.

However, this taught me three very valuable lessons…

1. Most people lose the battle before it even starts.

At first I thought that people gave up as they saw no results after a while, however, what I’ve now found is that people are afraid to commit when they think they will lose.

The (very brief) clients that I had felt they could not achieve in the first place.

They could have had the most detailed and planned out diet & exercise routine which would transform their lives, but they would quit as they did not believe in themselves.

It just goes to show how much your mind influences fitness so much…

2. If your mind does not want to get results, NOTHING will help you.

That’s the sad, brutal truth.

If you do not have that winning mentality, then you will not achieve. Simple as that.

I see this in the gym all the time:

People are doing ridiculous things: quarter squats, the worst deadlift form I have ever seen in my life, and super-alternating-quadruple-drop sets… Yet they still get results.

Why?

They are consistent.

They believe they can get results, and work hard to achieve them.

A sub-optimal routine applied consistently is a kajillion times better than applying the best routine inconsistently – consistency is what separates the best from the average.

3. Price influences quality

Why do the most expensive packages tend to get the best results?

Our brains equate quality to price

This was described perfectly by Robert Cialdini in his book on influence.

He described how a tourist shop owner he knew was struggling to make some sales.

She was going away for a while, so she asked her assistant to slash the price in half so she could at least get some sales.

When she came back, her shop was cleared out, but the prices were doubled – her assistance mistook her note to double the prices instead of half them!

This shows how exactly the same product can be worth more simply due to it having a higher price tag.

This could be a potential reason as to why people did not follow through with my free personal training offer.

If I mentioned that the service would have been more expensive maybe a few more heads would have turned, and it would have helped people jumpstart their brains into thinking that they had a true opportunity which they simply could not miss.

However, I still believe that their failing mindset would have got the better of them.

Do you think your mindset is destined for failure?

How many times have you failed at achieving a goal?

Lacking motivation to work out?

Do you really want to get your act together and be more productive, but don’t know how?

If you have answered yes to one of these, then please contact me at mike@unigains so we can work on transforming your body and mind.

I want you to achieve, and that is why I will refund the first month if you do not get results.

I charge £40 a month for online body and mind coaching.

All I ask is for you to make this one commitment and sign up to this – you have absolutely nothing to lose.

I do not offer this for free anymore, as you need to physically commit yourself to train your mind to be successful.

Make this one commitment and set yourself up for success.
